RoadStars hits the road at bauma 2019

bauma 2019

Meeting of giants.

When it comes to large construction machines, bauma is the number one meeting place. And Mercedes-Benz trucks simply have to be there. RoadStars took a look around the trade fair for you.

Trucks with power, truck bodies for every construction job, heavy machinery - bauma thinks in large dimensions. Every three years, the international trade fair for construction machinery draws large numbers of visitors to Munich with its outstanding technology. As the leading trade fair for the construction industry, bauma 2019 is an absolute must for trade visitors and a memorable experience for fans of heavy machinery.

Mercedes-Benz is presenting its trucks in the heart of the Messe München site - usually in Hall B4.

RoadStars gave away tickets to a total of 500 community members. One of them is Manfred from Munich.

The construction industry is generally very robust. Mud and rock, water and concrete, this is the daily routine of truckers who drive dump trucks and mixers. Today, Manfred Wandl is taking a break from this. “I wanted to find out about the latest technical innovations. So, the ticket campaign from RoadStars came at just the right time,” he says. Manfred registered for the tickets with RoadStars. 500 free tickets were given away in total.

For many years, Manfred worked in the transport of construction site machinery and recently got the chance to drive an Arocs 1840. “The vehicles are not usually as clean as the ones here,” he says with a laugh, making his way towards one of the Arocs. “But that’s not what it’s all about. In construction, it’s what's inside that counts.” And that is really quite a lot with the new Arocs.

Driving innovation.

The standout features of the clever construction pro are the new MirrorCam feature, which takes the place of wing mirrors, and the new Multimedia Cockpit featuring two digital displays. The enhanced emergency brake assistance system Active Brake Assist 5 is also available. The system uses the camera and radar technology, which enables it to automatically initiate emergency braking to a stop if necessary. The optimised Predictive Powertrain Control is additionally available. Forward-looking cruise control can now also be used to good effect in construction traffic on interurban routes.

Manfred is excited by the intelligent technology. The driver from Munich will soon be looking in detail at features like MirrorCam and the multimedia cockpit. He was one of 20 RoadStars able to take part in the live tests before the start of series production. “Now I really want to try it out in its final configuration.”

Allrounder Arocs.

Then, Manfred is unable to take his eyes off the four-axle Arocs 4163. “You could go anywhere in that,“ he says, grinning. The steel-grey Arocs with a weight of up to 250 tonnes is one of seven vehicles in the series presented at bauma. With its wide array of various drives and bodies, the Arocs is ready for every application imaginable and serves the entire construction world - on paved roads and paths or otherwise. For the Arocs, the leading international trade fair is familiar terrain. It celebrated its world premiere here in 2013. In 2019, the new Actros and Arocs are again the highlights of the heavy-duty segment laid on by Mercedes-Benz Trucks at the trade fair. They are once again setting new standards in terms of safety, efficiency and performance.

RoadStars hits the road.

A good meal is just as important at bauma as it is in construction work. The RoadStarsInn is the perfect place to take such a break. Manfred had the opportunity to share experiences with other drivers over a drink and a snack.

Refreshments and a jovial atmosphere: in the RoadStarsInn, guests can enjoy meatloaf sandwiches and draught beer whilst chatting with experts.

For those whose curiosity has been piqued as to all there is to see at the meeting of construction giants, bauma 2019 is running until 14 April at Messe München.
