Eye-catching Mercedes-Benz Atego is “black magic” for Creative Technology.

Global audio visual equipment specialist Creative Technology has turned once again to Mercedes-Benz Dealer Rossetts Commercials to help it bring “great ideas to life”.

The latest addition to Creative Technology’s UK-based fleet is an Atego 1524L which has lined up alongside the two other 15-tonners from the acclaimed Mercedes-Benz light- and medium-duty distribution range that operate from the company’s base in Crawley.

A real head-turner in its black livery with yellow and white branding, the new truck has a range-topping, high-roofed L BigSpace sleeper cab with optional second bunk. Its 6.0m GRP box body is by Solent Bodybuilders, of Fareham, which also fitted the cab roof-top air deflector and side wings, and a Ratcliff 1500 kg column tail-lift.

Creative Technology has offices throughout the world. As well as planning and managing events, it supplies top-quality equipment ranging from large screen displays to content delivery systems for clients from the sports, corporate, exhibition and entertainment industries. Like its other Atego, the new vehicle is now being used to transport audio visual hardware throughout the UK and, indeed, Europe.

Director of Operations Marc Butterworth observed: “The Atego’s best-in-class high-roof cab with double bunk is both spacious and comfortable for our crews, who can be away for several days and even weeks at a time.

“These trucks are ideally suited to servicing older venues, many of which are in London, that don’t have big exhibition delivery spaces. We’ve tried 7.5-tonners in the past but they didn’t offer a big enough payload – the 15-tonne Mercedes-Benz is a perfect compromise, in that it’s relatively compact while also offering a productive carrying capacity.”

The Atego combines exceptional ride comfort and precise handling, with impressive fuel-efficiency, long service intervals and high residual values. Outstanding reliability – across Europe, Atego trucks have incurred fewer than half the days of downtime of their nearest light- and medium-duty competitor, and the lowest number of breakdowns requiring recovery – also contributes to the Atego’s low cost of ownership.

Creative Technology’s new truck is powered by a 175 kW (238 hp) six-cylinder engine which drives through a smooth Mercedes-Benz PowerShift 3 automated transmission. “It’s the first time we’ve gone for the semi-automatic gearbox and the feedback from the driver has been entirely positive,” said Mr Butterworth.

Acquired with funding support from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, the new truck is the subject of a Mercedes-Benz Service Contract and is being inspected and maintained by the workshop team at Rossetts Commercials’ Crawley dealership.

“The Dealer is only a stone’s throw from our own offices, although we’re currently expanding and because we need more warehouse space will soon be taking on new premises immediately next door,” added Mr Butterworth. “I’m sure Rossetts will prove to be very good neighbours; certainly they provide a high level of service.”
