Fascination of show trucks – countless hours of work, shiny paint …

… Chrome parts, airbrush, etc. These are just some of the things with which truck drivers transform a truck into their highly personal masterpiece. Certainly also required are a healthy dose of enthusiasm, plenty of dedication and a keen flair for precision work. Here at RoadStars, truck drivers have an opportunity to present their special show trucks to the entire community, thereby allowing everyone to share in this fascination. Thank you once again at this point to all those who have sent in photos.

Today, we present Robert Popp and his show truck. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, the truck was involved in an accident, which means that it can no longer be seen on Germany's roads. We wish Robert and his new truck safe and pleasant motoring.

Interview Robert Popp.

A couple of personal details. What's your name, how old are you and where do you come from?

Popp: My name is Robert Popp, I'm 28 years old and come from Buchloe.

Why did you become a trucker?

Popp: Truck driving has always been in my blood – even as a young child, I always wanted to drive a truck and there was nothing better than accompanying my father when he was driving.

Do you have a constant companion when you're on the road? If so, “who”?

Popp: I always have a Minions teddy with me that ensures I'm always in a good mood.

Which countries do you cover on your trips?

Popp: Recently, I've been in Austria and the Czech Republic. But generally speaking, I only drive in Germany.

Can you put a rough figure on how many kilometres you clock up in a year?

Popp: On average, around 100,000 kilometres per year.

What truck do you drive?

Popp: This is more or less an obituary to my baby: it was an Actros 3 2555 from 2011 with everything a truck driver could possibly desire.

What is special about your truck?

Popp: The sound system, the airbrushing and even the illuminated V8 – it had everything you could ever wish for.

How much work has gone into your truck?

Popp: The time spent on it is difficult to work out because I received extra help from lots of people.

Do you do work on your truck yourself or do you have someone special to look after your truck for you?

Popp: There was one big helper in this project who I would also like to thank again for the immense effort which he invested in the project. A big thank you to my brother-in-law, Fabian.

What type of paint did you use for your truck?

Popp: The paint colour is called Ral 3000 and the airbrushing is a picture that I picked out during internet research.

What does your truck look like inside? Do you like to decorate your cab?

Popp: The cab was entirely covered with leather and painted in black/red with various additional lights. Just as you'd expect! ;-)

How do you make yourself feel at home in your truck? What do you need to feel at home?

Popp: I feel at home in my truck when it's clean, tidy and nicely finished. After all, it's your second home and you should look after it and drive it as such.
