All four Actros model generations were represented at Truckfest 2016 in Peterborough, as Mercedes-Benz marked the launch two decades ago of the world’s most successful heavy truck.

Flying the flag for the original Actros, which set previously unseen standards for efficiency and productivity, was the stunning show favourite of Bicester-based DN Mobile.

Contrasting with this ground-breaking vehicle, and illustrating how far the technology and cab comfort have moved on over the last 20 years, was a new, 460 kW (625 hp) GigaSpace variant in the distinctive livery of Rotherham’s Green Group. The line-up was completed by two V8-engined models, a second-generation Black Edition belonging to East Midlands Dealer Mertrux, and Chesterfield-based owner-driver Stuart Bough’s eye-catching third generation unit.

Other popular attractions among the 15 trucks on the Mercedes-Benz stand included a ‘bull nose’ LPS 1418 from 1971 and a 1996 Euroliner from the SK range, forerunner to the Actros, along with an Actros tractor unit used by the Metropolitan Police’s Trading Places scheme to

demonstrate to cyclists the challenges faced by truck drivers in urban environments. An 8×4 Arocs 4158 with crane, dubbed The Beast by high-profile operator Neil Yates Recovery, of Snodland, Kent was also a popular exhibit.

Among the visitors to the Mercedes-Benz stand were Lisa Kelly and Todd Dewey from TV’s Ice Road Truckers.
