Meet the number 1 Mercedes-Benz Actros1.

Actros1

Pollock (Scotrans) and driver Allan Holt tell us about their new Actros1.

What is it like to drive the first produced Actros1 vehicle? Its driver and owners tell us all about the Limited Edition Mercedes-Benz model.

When Pollock (Scotrans) went to choose their new flagship model, they did not just want any vehicle. Having selected the first Actros1 out of the 100 exclusive models being produced in the UK, the company now has the vehicle out on the road.

With optional technology, comfort features and eye-catching enhancements, the Actros1 hasn’t just been great for Pollock (Scotrans) as a business, but for their lucky driver, Allan Holt too.

Number 1’s driver.

Allan, who lives in Carnforth, Lancashire, is a huge Mercedes-Benz fan. “I’ve tried various makes of truck in the seven years I’ve been working for Pollock, and the Actros have definitely been the best,” he explained. “My previous vehicle was also a 625 hp GigaSpace. That was fabulous, but the Actros1 is something else altogether.”

With its black paintwork and vivid green highlights, the vehicle certainly stands out from the crowd. This was clear when the truck appeared at Truckfest, Peterborough and won second prize in the organizer’s Best Kept New Truck competition.

The vehicle’s 6x2 chassis has a range-topping GigaSpace cab and is powered by a state-of-the-art, 15-6-litre straight-six which produces a potent 460 kW (625 hp), meaning that it is both comfortable to live in, and great to drive.

“In terms of comfort and practicality it’s pretty much perfect,” said Allan. “I can’t think of anything else I’d add. The uprated multimedia entertainment system is brilliant, the leather massage seats and Premium Comfort mattress supremely comfortable, and the additional rear overhead lockers very useful.

“It’s a superb piece of engineering. I’m always hearing about Swedish V8s but my Mercedes-Benz will leave them for dead on the hills, and you barely feel you’re moving, it’s that smooth.”

Pollock (Scotrans) and Actros1.

Pollock (Scotrans) is a haulage, distribution, warehousing and logistics service provider based in Bathgate. When Actros1, number one, arrived via the Broxburn branch of Central Scotland Dealer Western Commercial, Managing Director Scott Pollock could barely contain his excitement.

“Actros1 is a very special vehicle indeed,” he said. “Allan is a skilled and highly valued professional who looks after company assets as though they were his own. It’s for this reason that we were happy to indulge his request for the Nordic bars and other enhancements. The result is a fantastic new flagship for our business.”

Although the reliability of the Mercedes-Benz trucks is what initially attracted the company to these vehicles, their great relationship with Dealer Western Commercials also convinced them that their flagship model had to be Mercedes-Benz.

“When inspections and maintenance are due we can drop our trucks off at Broxburn on a Saturday or even a Sunday, and get them back first thing Monday morning,” he said. “That counts for a lot. The Dealer’s workshop also has an ATF lane, where we get our MoTs done. Western handle all the arrangements and make life very simple for us.”
