Moriarty Haulage put safety first with their new Mercedes-Benz Econic mixers

DRIVERS

The cab design makes inner-city driving a breeze.

Moriarty Haulage are a company dedicated to positive change and improvement in all areas of operations. Their newly commissioned vehicles demonstrate the latest step in improving working conditions for their drivers, and creating a socially aware fleet. In fact, the 15 new Econic mixers are already making noticeable changes for the Moriarty drivers working on high pressure London routes.

A popular choice.

Transport Manager John Moriarty says that the intelligent design and safety features of the Econic trucks are already making large improvements for their haulage drivers.

He said: “Driving is a high-pressure job these days, especially in central London, and several members of our team have commented on how the Econic’s excellent visibility and low seating position gives them more confidence at the wheel. The fact that visibility is greatly increased should also help in reducing our incident rate and ultimately enhance protection for vulnerable road users”.

Safety first.

Although the haulage company already runs more than 60 truck mixers, including 5 Mercedes-Benz Arocs eight-wheelers, the low-entry Econics represent an entirely new departure.

On top of added precautions, such as recordable cameras and audible proximity sensors, these new additions have important safety features built into their core design.

It is thanks to its deep, panoramic windscreen and full-height, glazed folding side door that the Econic achieves the excellent visibility which is so loved by drivers. This, in addition to a seating position which is much lower than in a conventional construction vehicle, allows the driver to make direct eye contact with cyclists and pedestrians at junctions or in traffic queues.

John's brother and company founder, Denis Moriarty, commented: “Given our determination to do everything possible to minimise risk both to our own employees and to other road users, this substantial investment in our first low-entry, high-visibility trucks represented a logical progression for the business."

Looking good.

Whilst safety and efficiency are clearly important to the company, that's not all there is to their trucks. On top of all their more practical features, they also catch the eye with their striking liveries.

Most are finished in the liveries of high-profile customers of Moriarty Haulage. However, three wear the firm’s own colours. Reflecting the Irish roots of its founder and Managing Director Denis Moriarty, the design incorporates the green, white and orange of the Republic’s national flag, and a shamrock motif.
