Marcel Hecker and his Arocs 2553

RoadStars meets

A lot of power for old horse power.

The only thing that Marcel Hecker has that is ready for the scrapyard is his load. His Arocs 2553 on the other hand is on the receiving end of many an admiring glance.

“Since I began driving the Arocs, more people contact me via the radio than before,” reports Marcel Hecker. The truck with its elegant matt green paintwork is indeed an eye-catcher.

For four years now, the man from Thuringia has been transporting scrap metal for the ten year-old recycling company R&M Schrott- und Metallhandel (scrap and metal trading) based in Sondershausen. “We have everything you can think of; from Golfs to Porsche Cayennes and Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles,” says the thirty year-old. Dealing with disused luxury vehicles is run-of-the-mill for him. “But every now and again, I take a friend with me and they are always impressed.”

The only driver for a unique vehicle.

And Marcel was too, when R&M offered him a job four years ago – his first job as a truck driver. “I am satisfied and earn good money,” he says happily. Customer contact is what Marcel appreciates most about his job. In the meantime, he knows many of them quite well, as he is only on the road in Thuringia. “Usually I drive between 50 and 60 kilometres to pick up scrap cars. The sorting claw presses down the vehicle's roof and then it's loaded onto the back of the truck.” Five cars fit into the 34 cubic metre container and another five onto the trailer.

Home advantage.

Everything is ship-shape in the cab. Marcel could sleep in it, but as he only travels within the region, he is lucky to be able to return to his wife and daughter every evening.

In his spare time, he cycles or spends time in the garden with his family. Whenever they travel in the car, Marcel likes to leave the driving to his wife. “After all, I drive during the week.” And that is not about to change: “I definitely want to stay with this job.”
