Jordi has discovered that sport is fun

Bye-bye kilos!

At the end of his working day, Jordi climbs out of the cab and puts on a pair of running shoes. In less than a year he has lost 30 kilos.

Jordi Carrasco ties the laces of his running shoes and closes the cab door of his Actros.

“Normally I jog an hour every day,” he says, “before I hardly moved; I always left the truck to go straight to the couch. Jordi has managed to integrate sport into his everyday routine. “On days when I don’t run, I feel odd; as if I’m missing something.” he says.

Healthy food and regular exercise.

Jordi lives in Malaga and drives an Actros 1846 with a powder tank for Logística Graneles del Sur. His routes take him throughout Spain. But no matter where he is when his working day ends, Jordi changes his work clothes for jogging pants or shorts, puts on a pair of running shoes and... off he goes!

“I had difficulty breathing,” Jordi explains when he thinks back to when he was overweight. Several years ago driver Jordi decided to give the weighing scales a break and to offer them some relief by choosing healthy food – a lot of water, vegetables and fish – and sport on a daily basis. “It's an easy enough principle,” he says, “but difficult to keep to.”

A walk by the riverbank.

One of his regular routes is from Malaga to Seville. Once he has finished his working day in the Andalusian capital, he drives the Actros to a field on the banks of the Guadalquivir. “I like running outdoors; the treadmills in the gym aren’t my thing,” he says.

Before he starts off, he always does stretching exercises first. “A good warm-up prevents injuries,” he says. Jordi begins by stretching his shoulders and triceps, then the calf muscles and quadriceps and finally his knees and ankles before he starts running on the unpaved paths. “Nothing is better than fresh air,” he says.

The right moment.

When he is finished, he feels satisfied. In addition to the exhilaration caused by endorphins released in the brain, he, personally, feels good about having persevered for another day.

“It wasn’t easy to lose 30 kilos in a year,” he admits. “You have to be very strict with your diet and drink a lot of water as well as eat plenty of vegetables.”

And he adds that he made the decision to lose weight and to then actually do it at the right moment. Jordi stresses that it is not just an aesthetic problem, but it’s about your health too: “I used to have high cholesterol and I have managed to reduce it to a healthy level.”

Persistence.

His wife and daughter are proud of the perseverance with which he pursues his new habits. “As far as food is concerned, I hardly recognise myself,” he admits. “My evening meal is only grilled fish.”

His colleagues have got used to his new look. At first they always asked him about his “miracle diet”. “I answered that the miracle is in the persistence,” he adds. Thanks to his improved mobility, Jordi can do his job better and his mood has improved. “It even improves your character,” he concludes.
