Prepared for winter’s worst

AROCS

Ringway Jacobs is ready for all weather conditions with their brand new fleet of Arocs trucks.

The highway service provider is gearing up for the colder months by purchasing eight new Mercedes-Benz trucks. The vehicles will be used to clear away ice and snow whilst gritting the roads during treacherous conditions.

Keeping the streets clear and safe.

Ringway Jacobs provides services to local authorities across the UK and specialises in road network management solutions. This winter, they’ll be keeping the streets of Cheshire East clear of snow and ice with their team of new tough Arocs gritters.

“We favour Mercedes-Benz chassis for gritting applications because of their inherent reliability, and for the power they give us for pushing on the plough.”

– David Bonehill, Head of Fleet, Ringway Jacobs

Fully spec’d.

The vehicles all have a robust chassis based on an Arocs with ClassicSpace S-cabs and Econ Engineering bodywork.

Four of the trucks are double-drive 2633 26-tonners with 10.7-litre in-line six-cylinder engines producing 240 kW (326 hp). The remainder are 4x4 18-tonne 1824 AK variants with high-torque, 175 kW (238 hp) 7.7-litre straight-sixes.

Making the job easier.

The Econ Engineering bodies are purpose-designed to spread de-icing dry rock salt at a width of up to 12 metres.

ECON’S ‘E’ Plough boasts a power angling function which allows the operator to alter the direction in which the snow is ejected without having to make manual adjustments on the move. Additionally, the vehicles possess Econ’s E-Drive route guidance technology, which operates the spreader automatically, so the driver can concentrate on the road ahead.

Safe roads and safe vehicles.

The company is committed to safety and doesn’t compromise with its trucks. The new additions are equipped with recordable five-point camera systems, ‘turning left’ warning alarms, nearside proximity sensors and a reverse radar, which complements the standard-fit reverse alarm and camera.

The business believes in providing trucks which are safe, accessible and make life easier for their drivers.

“The ride height of the Arocs is an added bonus, as the truck’s extra ground clearance and relatively elevated seating position makes life that bit easier for drivers when conducting snow clearance and gritting operations,” explains Head of Fleet, David Bonehill.

A variety of Mercedes-Benz trucks.

David is responsible for 250 trucks and 350 vans.  The fleet includes 22 low-entry Econics, 17 Actros at 18- and 26-tonnes GVW plus an Actros tractor unit; most are impact protection vehicles (IPVs) with crash cushions and the rest of the Econics are vacuum tankers for gully empting.

The company will continue to service the roads of Cheshire East for the next 15 years, so rest assured the public will be in safe hands.
