A real looker: Martin Dürnberger is devoted to keeping his Actros 1851 shipshape

Showpiece.

Martin Dürnberger transports gravel, crushed stone, lime and sand. His Actros with a tipping trailer still looks as good as new despite the raw area of application.

Martin Dürnberger did have a few doubts at first. After all, the list of features for his Actros was pretty long. What would his boss Simon Herzog say? “I was also unsure about my engine of choice, the 350 kW version.” The worries were in in vain. Whether Sideguard Assist or Lane Keeping Assist for safety, or the chrome wing mirror and lamp holders for looks – he got everything he wanted. And, to Martin’s surprise, his boss even splashed out on the 375 kW version.

Martin’s Actros is always spotless.

Martin already used to treat his previous truck – an Actros 1846 – as meticulously as if it were his own. “I don’t like simply getting in and then getting out again at the end of the day. I look after my truck,” the trained truck mechanic says.

Martin transports all types of bulk cargo from the Franconian town of Hilpoltstein, covering around 2.800 kilometres per week. He drives to the Chiemsee and Thuringia with waste glass for glass production, lime and fertiliser for agriculture and sand for golf courses and beach volleyball courts. “The Actros, with all its chrome and lighting, looks really impressive and even turns heads at the golf courses.”

Meticulous: Martin goes to great pains to make sure that his truck doesn’t get dirty in the first place.

Breaks are used for upkeep.

If he has time during the working day, traces of dust are blown away using compressed air and dirt is wiped off. “I avoid driving fast on dusty roads. That really helps.” After work and at the weekend, the truck gets a wash. With a pressure washer and cold. Followed by a brush. Martin invests two and a half hours per week in upkeep, for which his boss repays him with lunch on Saturday or Sunday. And the next truck he buys will surely spare no expense when it comes to looks and features again.
