RoadStars 2019 highlights – the rest of the year

DRIVERS

We recap some of the fantastic RoadStars articles from the second half of 2019.

What a year! So many interesting driver stories, beautiful truck photos, exciting events and not forgetting the new Actros being crowned ‘International Truck of the Year 2020.’ Following on from the article featuring the highlights during the first six months of the year, we’ve chosen some favourites from the rest of the year.

July – Drivers have their say.

During the summer, we interviewed real drivers along with managers from Chiltern Cold Storage, KRP Trucking and Lombard Express. The video explored driver retention and the reasons why the drivers got in to the industry in the first place.

It contained great feedback and ignited plenty of conversations about how the industry can move forward.

August – super cars, super trucks and classic vehicles.

Only the best trucks for the best cars! In August we were introduced to Russell’s Vehicle Management Ltd and its fleet of Mercedes-Benz Trucks vehicles used to transport super cars, race cars and classics across the UK and Europe.

The company deals with some of the biggest names in the motoring industry and delivers vehicles to VIPs in luxury destinations. For this reason, only premium, modern and reliable trucks, like the Actros will do.

September – Unimog vs G-Class.

Two mighty machines met for the ultimate off-roading obstacle course at the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Experience Centre in Austria. Declared the ‘Summit of Off-Road Giants,’ the action-packed exercise saw the two vehicles venture over rocks, steep slopes and through woodland and deep fords to prove their capabilities. The Unimog, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2019, had no issues keeping up with the much newer G-Class on the nerve-wracking course, proving it’s still unstoppable.

October – our TruckChallenger event.

Our TruckChallenger event was a smashing success! 30 lucky guests from the driving industry were invited to the Mercedes-Benz Experience Centre in South Yorkshire for the ultimate trucking experience.

Delegates competed in different tasks throughout the day in various vehicles, including an Arocs, Unimog and the new Actros with MirrorCam and learnt about the innovative technology. The day was rounded off with a fun truck-themed quiz and a prize-giving for the winners.

November – living and breathing trucks.

Rich Cortez shared his love of trucks both on and off the road in November. Creator of the Facebook group ‘Mercedes-Benz Lorries Past & Present’ the keen trucker shares his passion for new and retro vehicles with fans across the world.

He provided some of his favourite truck photos to RoadStars, explained how he got in to the industry and why he is a devoted fan of the three-pointed star.

December – New Actros is triumphant!

A proud moment for Mercedes-Benz Trucks – the revolutionary new Actros is crowned ‘International Truck of the Year 2020’!

A specialist jury assessed the New Actros against other trucks in its category and they were blown away by the excellent technology, exceptional driver comfort and ground-breaking MirrorCam system. It was the best way to finish the year!
