New Actros: Sideguard Assist can also detect e-scooters

Safety

Well spotted.

Swift e-scooters are making city traffic even more confusing for truck drivers in particular. It’s a good thing that Sideguard Assist in the new Actros can also detect these road users.

Sideguard Assist can detect objects located on the right-hand side of the vehicle.

In virtually every German city, e-scooters have become a normal part of the streetscape. Especially for truck drivers, this means yet another road user more to look out for. With their high speeds, slender design and often unpredictable movements, e-scooters can be particularly hazardous, especially when riding parallel to a truck on the passenger side and the truck has to turn right. Sideguard Assist in the new Actros considerably defuses this situation because the system can detect an object in the zone monitoring the right side of the truck – regardless if it is stationary or moving. In this case, this could be pedestrians, cyclists and road signs, but also e-scooters.

This is how Sideguard Assist warns the driver.

The driver is first informed optically. A yellow triangular warning symbol lights up on the display of the MirrorCam on the passenger side. If there’s a risk of collision, the display flashes red multiple times and then remains red after two seconds. In addition, an alert sounds from the passenger side at the same time.
