Starting in style with a high spec new Actros

NEW ACTROS EDITION 1

Lymers Assist has gone all in with its first Mercedes-Benz truck – a new Actros Edition 1!

The haulage company doesn’t do things by halves, which is why when choosing their first Mercedes-Benz truck, they decided on a high spec, top-of-the-range new Actros Edition 1. Company owner Alex Lymer and driver Jason share their thoughts on the breath-taking style, comfort and cutting-edge technology in the new company flagship vehicle.

A buzz of excitement.

Alex Lymer established Lymers Assist in Croston, Lancashire in 2014. Following this the business moved to new headquarters in Derbyshire and most recently opened a second three-acre depot in Hull. The hauliers specialise in wide and abnormal loads, undertaking movements of up to 80 tonnes GCW and providing professional equipment and services including a Hiab crane, haulage, trailer hire, and storage.

Along with investing in new sites, the company is refreshing its fleet. The latest addition, a new Actros Edition 1 with MirrorCam, has certainly caused a buzz of excitement amongst management and the lucky driver, Jason Dempsey.

“It took a little bit of getting used to, but I was soon won over. The blind side view when I’m reversing with a wide load is truly amazing.”

Won over by MirrorCam.

Jason, who joined the company in June this year and has been rewarded for his hard work with the keys to the new flagship vehicle, for which he can’t believe his luck!

“My Actros is a beautiful machine, and I love the way it looks,” he enthused. “It’s supremely comfortable, and someone’s clearly given a lot of thought to the interior lighting – having so many options when it comes to illumination is a real bonus given the dull and dingy cabs of some of the trucks I’ve driven in the past.”

A trucker with lots of experience (he’s been on the road for 32 years and has never had an accident!) he’s pretty much seen it all and isn’t afraid to admit he’s a self-professed ‘old-school driver’. In fact, he was a little unsure at first about the model’s innovative MirrorCam system, however the trepidation didn’t last long, “It took a little bit of getting used to, but I was soon won over,” he recalled. “The blind side view when I’m reversing with a wide load is truly amazing.”

“I want to retain the best guys, and providing them with top-class equipment like the Actros Edition 1 helps me to do so. It’s an investment I’m very happy to make.”

Investing in the best trucks and team.

His positive sentiments are shared by his boss, Alex Lymer, “Image is very important to me. I don’t want basic, supermarket-spec trucks, so most of ours are high-end models that really look the part when they turn up on behalf of our customers,” he explained.

Alex was so taken with the Edition 1 that as soon as he saw the flagship model at the Dealership, he knew it was the right truck for his business. As a former driver, he understands the importance of driving high quality vehicles which suit the needs of both the job and the driver and he endeavours to look after his team.

“Jason is a very good driver, with a lot of experience of our kind of work. I want to retain the best guys, and providing them with top-class equipment like the Actros Edition 1 helps me to do so. It’s an investment I’m very happy to make.”

Seriously good spec.

When it comes to trucks, it doesn’t get any better than the new Actros Edition 1. The exclusive vehicle is one of only 35 models available in the UK and one of 400 made worldwide.

It boasts revolutionary safety technology including MirrorCam, which provides panoramic vision around the rear of the vehicle and eliminates blind spots created by traditional mirrors. Also included is Active Brake Assist 5, enhanced Predictive Powertrain Control and the impressive Multimedia Cockpit which offers a 12 inch colour display and allows the driver to perform a range of vehicle checks, access apps and cab controls at the touch of a button.

The Edition 1 is equipped with a spacious GigaSpace cab, instantly recognisable thanks to its gloss black grille, darkened headlamp covers and rims, and branded sun visor incorporating four extra LED main-beam headlamps. Whilst the interior is decked out in black leather and contrasting topstitching with a brushed aluminium dashboard badge that confirms the truck is ‘One of 400’ Edition 1s.

The start of a wonderful partnership.

The Edition 1 is called ‘Amy Elizabeth’ after Alex’s cousin – every truck in the Lymer’s Assist Ltd fleet bears a female name, an ode to family members, “Since my wife and I moved away from our home town of Blackpool the business seems to have taken up all of my time, so it’s a nice way to show that at least I’m still thinking of them,” he said.

Alex is undoubtedly thrilled with his new vehicle and has been equally impressed by the support of his Dealership, Mertrux Truck & Van, “I like partners with a ‘can do’ attitude, whose people can demonstrate flexibility when I need to get a truck into the workshop in a hurry, and jump straight on it when I call to report an issue.”

It’s the start of a wonderful partnership with Mercedes-Benz Trucks.
