The perfect truck for this driver

ACTROS

Driver David still loves his Actros as much as the first time he saw it.

The Actros GigaSpace vehicle has served him well over the past two years and he plans to drive it for many more to come. An eye-catching livery, high spec’ cab and impressive technology make this model exactly what he was looking for.

Becoming a Mercedes-Benz Trucks fan.

David Goodrum, owner of Goodrum Transport Ltd (GTL), couldn’t be prouder of his Actros. After being a trucker on and off since 2000, he’s driven his fair share of vehicles, which have all been beaten in the style and comfort stakes by his current truck.

The self-employed driver set up GTL five years ago and it remains a family affair, with his father-in-law and wife pitching in with the paperwork whilst David spends his weeks away hauling a variety of goods. Based in Stalham, Norfolk, the trucker undertakes work for local oil and agricultural companies, with routes mapping out across the UK – as far north as Scotland and far south as Land’s End.

“Very nice cab to live in – I’m away all week and I’m happy to spend that time living in the cab.”

A plush home away from home.

Previously, David had driven vehicles by other manufacturers, however after driving a Mercedes-Benz Actros BigSpace 2545 in 2016, he fell in love with the three-pointed star. Shortly after, his local Dealer contacted him to say they had found the perfect truck for him – a 2017 Actros GigaSpace 2548 model.

“The colour and high spec’ was exactly what I was looking for – very close to the limited edition Actros1,” explained David.

The interior includes a host of plush features such as the full leather package, passenger air seat, double bunk beds, extra storage and the added living space you would expect from a GigaSpace cab.

“It’s a very nice cab to live in – I’m away all week and I’m happy to spend that time living in the cab.”

Beautiful inside and out.

The special model is just as beautiful on the outside as on the inside. Finished in a stunning silvery, grey ‘Mercedes-Benz’ livery, it proudly displays the famous three-pointed star logo on the sides of the cab along with a matching jet black bullbar and additional air horns.

As well as being striking, it has also proven its worth in economy and technology, “It’s a very good truck – fuel economy is great, it’s lovely to drive and the Predictive Powertrain Control function is brilliant! I use it all the time and makes driving so much easier,” David enthused.

“I like the idea of doing something different every day. You never know what tomorrow is going to bring and it’s nice to get out and about and see the countryside.”

Getting stuck in with the Actros.

Trucking never gets old for this driver; he still loves being out on the open road each day, “I like the idea of doing something different every day. You never know what tomorrow is going to bring and it’s nice to get out and about and see the countryside.”

His work is varied and challenging, no two days are the same and each day when he turns up for work, he never knows how difficult the job is going to be. David has had plenty of abnormally large, long or wide loads which have required plenty of problem-solving and a steady hand, but these days he takes it all in his stride, “I don’t bother stressing about it too much anymore, I’ve been there, done that so I just get stuck in now.”

Having a tough and reliable truck like the Actros certainly helps!

An Actros fan club.

When he’s not tramping or transporting difficult loads, David spends his spare time with his family. They all love to attend truck shows when possible, both local and national events such as Truckfest and take their caravan along to make a weekend of it.

“It’s great; we can relax, have a BBQ, some beers and the kids love polishing the truck.”

It seems this awesome Actros has quite the fan club!
