An Actros at the space mission launch centre in French-Guiana.

Anything that flies must roll first: Remko van Schaik has put a whole new perspective on the Actros with air freight.

A question of perspective: the artists draw their motifs on the ground such that they are distorted. The amazing 3D effect only becomes apparent from a particular angle.

The task:

Rockets are regularly launched into the Earth's orbit from the space mission launch centre in French-Guiana. It doesn't matter whether freight is a weather satellite or rocket components, a lot of what goes into space comes from Europe and arrives in freight planes. A powerful Actros tractor combination takes care of safe unloading. It is this scene that 50-year old artist, Remko van Schaik has portrayed.

"I come from Utrecht in the Netherlands. I have painted all over the world. The work in Nairobi and Bogota was particularly impressive. I have been painting for about 25 years. I have been involved in 3D painting for around ten years."

"I taught myself how to paint. Artistically I developed further by looking at the many techniques of other artists. When I'm not creating realistic works, I would describe my style as being more 'cartoon-like'. I usually create between 20 and 30 pictures a year. The most difficult part of my motif was the sophisticated details on the Actros."
