A dream car: Uwe Harms' model 1924 cement mixer
Classic vehicle
With the best will in the world, Uwe Harms' model 1924 short-nosed truck is far too nice to be used as a cement mixer. Just looking at it is a true delight.
Anyone who has succumbed to the virus of collecting classic vehicles does not think in categories like "practical". Yet there are veteran trucks whose owners occasionally transport a cubic metre of gravel, or add a tarpaulin under which you can camp comfortably for a few days. The model 1924 short-nosed truck owned by Uwe Harms from the village of Jübek in Schleswig-Holstein is a different matter. This cement mixer looks clean and fresh, and is really only intended for driving. 46-year-old Uwe Harms loves driving it. "I just had to have a cement mixer. I've always had a strong emotional bond with these vehicles," he said. Harms’ grandparents used to own a haulage company that delivered raw material to a cement works and transported finished concrete parts. He would spend every spare minute riding in his grandfather's truck, and at the cement works there was a large fleet of three-axle cement mixers.
