First the classic, then the licence: Lauritz Harms and his LPS 2226

Classic vehicles

The final test.

A nice little project for a fairly young fellow: Lauritz Harms has taken on the challenge of restoring a truck in his young years.

Is there a minimum age for coming up with the idea of restoring a classic truck? Do you have to be nearing retirement age or at least have gone past the 50 mark? No. If you have an aim in life, even as a teenager, you can find a way to achieve it – just like Lauritz Harms from Jübek in Schleswig-Holstein. He's 18 years old and for the past one and a half years has been working on getting a veteran Mercedes-Benz LPS 2226 back in shape.

"I've known for a while already that I wanted to restore my very own truck at some point," says the A-Level student, looking at the green-coloured front end of the cab with its headlamps integrated in the black bumper and its equally black radiator grille. "On the LP models, the cubic form of the cab always really does it for me – they have such a friendly face. When I found this one on the Internet, it quickly became clear that this truck was the right one for me."
