Mercedes-Benz celebrates the OM 471 with an Actros “Racing” edition

Mercedes-Benz celebrates the 390 kW OM 471 with a special version of the Actros.
The new Actros Edition with 390 kW/530 hp is delivered in the “Racing” livery which imitates a carbon-fibre look.
An Actros with carbon-fibre paint adorns the streets of Italy. It is easily recognisable thanks to the huge “530” lettering which designates the output of the Mercedes OM 471 in horsepower. The unit was introduced this year to enrich the flagship offering of the brand with the three-pointed star.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks Italia designed the special version to celebrate the introduction of the new output stage of the Euro VI six-cylinder 12.8-litre engine. In the engine product range for long-distance haulage trucks, this model takes up its place between the more compact OM 470 and the powerful OM 473. The OM 471 delivers 390 kW and a maximum torque of 2,600 Nm and is thus a suitable answer to all types of operating requirements. Even at low engine speeds, it delivers high torque values – something which always ensures swift responsiveness and extraordinary propulsion.
At low revs, this engine actually delivers a level of torque which is otherwise only familiar from engines with a bigger displacement. “This new level of performance was created for our demanding Italian customers, for example for hauliers who drive their own vehicles and thus require utmost power and economy from a single unit,” explains Enrico Ferraioli, Head of the Trucks Marketing division at Mercedes-Benz Italia. Drivers also benefit from those 390 kW – tough challenges when fully laden, such as mountain passes and long climbs on motorways, can thus be conquered both safely and comfortably.
The special livery of the special model, whose red inserts imitate a carbon-fibre look, was created by the website WrappingItaly.it. The company which specialises in vehicle wrapping using special adhesive films created the design together with Mercedes-Benz Trucks Italia. “This Actros is for Italian hauliers and is intended to give the new technology an emotive flair,” adds Ferraioli. “That's the reason why we approached one of the most well-known wrapping firms.”
An homage to the new OM 471, various sporty details make the Actros a true piece of eye candy.
Its début was last May at the Week-End del Camionista in Misano Adriatico, where the special model was very well-received. “We had loads of questions about the livery,” explains Ferraioli. Anyone interested in the vehicle can contact an authorised Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealer.
