Compact implement carrier U 218 in Schmalkalden
Vehicle & Technology
The Unimog U 218 amazed the city of Schmalkalden in two ways at one and the same time – through its affordable price and through great manoeuvrability. The multitalented Unimog is now part of the municipal maintenance department’s fleet.
Hartmut Danz has pushed the VarioPilot transferable steering to the right-hand side of the cab. From inside the panorama cab he has a good view of the grass verges. With the joystick he lowers the mowing unit. The Unimog U 218 also neatly moves through the sharp right turn without Danz having to set down the mowing unit.
Lothar Hilpert, Head of the Building Department in the town of Schmalkalden in Thuringia, is pleased every time he sees Danz in the new compact Unimog U 218: “When we needed a new vehicle for mowing and winter service tasks we made an open-system invitation to tender. Particularly at the municipal level, we have to keep an eye on costs. We then received the offer from our long-standing Unimog partner Carl Beutlhauser Kommunal- und Agrartechnik Weimar, and we decided to choose the Unimog U 218,” Hilpert recalls.
The high efficiency and high value of the new models U 216 and U 218 made this possible. “We are glad to be able to make it easier for the local authorities to strike a balance this way between the pressure of costs and the growing demands made on a vehicle,” says Jörg Eichhorn, Sales Consultant for the Unimog at Carl Beutlhauser Kommunal- und Agrartechnik Weimar.
