Truck Generations

Germany, Heidelberg, fire station.

The futuristic fire station doesn't just impress with its architecture, it also leads the way with regard to energy and the environment.

With this building designed by the architect Peter Kulka, the fire service in Heidelberg has the first fire station in Germany to be built according to passive house standards. Building began in 2006 and the inauguration took place in 2007. The fire station covering 9500 square metres boasts typical facilities such as the vehicle garage with 30 spaces, a breathing apparatus training area, storerooms, workshops, a control centre and administration offices. A 35-metre high hose tower stands tall over the main building.

A strong helper stands guard in front of the modern building complex: the LAF 1113. One of the innovations of diesel engine development is hidden under its rounded bonnet: the OM 352, the first six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with direct injection.
