2020 Calendar "Great Landscapes"
The highest mountain in Turkey makes for a breath-taking backdrop – the Arocs at the foot of Mount Ararat.
Around 1,600 kilometres separate the Aegean Sea from the eastern border of Turkey. Along the route, there are a number of mountain ranges, with around 90 percent of Turkey being made up of mountainous terrain. In the eastern-most part of the country reigns the country's highest mountain – the 5,137-metre-high Mount Ararat. It's an imposing sight, regardless of the direction from which you arrive. Mount Ararat is, in fact, one of only a few free-standing mountains to be higher than 5,000 metres.
In the times of the former Silk Road, this was part of a trade route coming from Tabriz in Persia. Today, the long-distance routes beneath Mount Ararat span to Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave Nakhchivan. And there's always something for the Arocs to do around here.
