RoadStars in Greek

New market for RoadStars: Greece.

It is with great pleasure that we are presenting a new market on RoadStars: Greece. What are the main features of Greece?

A journey to the centre of the world.

At the foot of Mount Parnassus, in the imposing landscape formed between two enormous rocks called Phaedriades, lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which had the most famous oracle of ancient Greece. According to mythology, when Zeus sent out two eagles from the ends of the universe to find the navel of the world, they met in Delphi. For many centuries it was the cultural and religious centre and symbol of unity for the Hellenic world.

Greece is situated in south-eastern Europe, in the Mediterranean region, and is described as the “cradle of Europe” due to its vast contribution to civilisation. The Greek island of Gavdos  is the southernmost end of Europe and is located in the Libyan Sea. Apart from its numerous idyllic beaches, the island offers a multitude of beautiful natural sites.

A major factor for the Greek economy and growth is tourism. Greece is one the most popular destinations worldwide primarily for summer holidays. Every year, 15 million tourist visit Greece to get to know its culture and enjoy its sun.

The main roads of Greece are those that play a key part in national road transports: highways and national roads. These two types of roads differ in terms of their construction specifications. Highways are built in accordance with higher quality standards than national roads. For instance, a typical highway has four or three lanes (three or two traffic lanes and one emergency lane in either direction), with median and barriers on the sides. On the contrary, a national road, although more significant than a country road, it may be constructed as such, e.g. two lanes, one per direction, without a median. The most important motorways in Greece are Egnatia Odos (A2), Ionia Odos (A5), Attiki Odos (A6) and Nea Odos (A1).
