China Heavy from Hong Kong puts their trust in the star

Story

"Indestructible!"

Building contractor Vincent Ho from Hong Kong is a self-confessed Mercedes fan: Actros, Axor, Atego – in his fleet everything bears a three-pointed star.

Building a bridge element.

A few statistics on Hong Kong: 7.5 million inhabitants, the third largest port in the world which handles almost 20 million TEU containers. Life here is buzzing which means: non-stop transport. It's no wonder that road projects have priority here. For example the new bridge towards Macau. It is part of the 50 km east-west connection across the Pearl River Delta. Soon, the journey time between the two cities of several hours will shrink to 30 minutes.

However the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge system is still a construction site – and also Vincent Ho's biggest project. The managing director of China Heavy Equipment & Automation Ltd. is responsible for the construction of several feeder roads. China Heavy, the abbreviated name of the company, is assembling bridge elements weighing 140 tonnes each close to the Chep Lak Kok airport.

"Mercedes-Benz is very reliable and fuel consumption is low. That's why I like Mercedes-Benz vehicles best."

Mercedes Fan in Hong Kong.

Whenever cables, shackles, tools and construction materials need to be transported, China Heavy calls upon its Atego. "I am a Mercedes fan!" says Vincent Ho. You can tell that just by looking at the fleet: Actros, Axor, Atego, Sprinters, Vitos and a G-Class – it's a mix of all types of model series.

Some trucks are noticeably older, for example two first-generation Actros trucks with which China Heavy moves concrete elements and other heavy materials at the construction site. Vincent Ho: "The vehicles are simply indestructible and we don't do a lot of mileage. Why would we replace them?"
