Michael Labruyère's Actros 1860 – a modern classic

Wherever Michael Labruyère drives his Actros 1860, its spectacular paintwork immediately attracts attention. It is a perfect match for the well-equipped powerhouse.

Michael Labruyère's burgundy-coloured Actros is truly eye-catching.

Michael Labruyère's burgundy-coloured Actros is truly eye-catching. That's what Michael's boss at the BFT haulage firm wanted. To celebrate the company's 20th anniversary, an airbrush artist was commissioned to decorate the cab with motifs of fireworks.

But the inner values of the Actros are also impressive. The eight-cylinder engine generates a whopping 440 kW from the 16-litre displacement. That was the absolute top-of-the-range engine specification when this model was launched in 2008.

Neither its age nor the 900,000 kilometres on the clock of the spectacularly decorated Actros are obvious at first glance. Michael has just recently taken over the truck from a colleague who went into retirement. The 30-year-old has only positive things to say about the well-maintained truck: "It drives really, really well".

As well as its eye-catching paint finish, the Actros has many other features that immediately catch the eye. The steps are made of polished stainless steel, as is the roof-mounted light bracket. Red painted aluminium sheet metal covers the chassis. The underside of the body is made up of profiled tubes in shiny stainless steel. The horns on the roof are made of stainless steel too. They give the Actros a huge voice!

The inside of the cab is also impressive. Thick, quilted beige carpets cover the floor of the vehicle. The dashboard and the curtain in front of the bed niche are also the same warm colour.

"This decor is nothing to do with me," Michael assures with a wink. "My predecessor made all the changes himself. It must of taken him a good few weekends." Maybe the colour is a matter of taste, but overall, this cab is more like a living room than a professional driver's workplace.

A good mindset.

Michael doesn't just like his truck. He is also very happy in his work. "I like the prevailing mindset in the company even more than the beautifully painted vehicles. "BFT is a really good company, whether you're looking at your superiors or your colleagues."

You can see this in certain details. If Michael arrives outside working hours with his containers in Fos-sur-Mer, a port town near Marseille, he has his own parking space at his disposal. Michael also has access to a shower and a kitchen.

This comfort consoles him for having to live in the truck during the week. "I live in Beaujolais, the famous wine-growing area. That's too far from the Lyon office to go home after work."

Michael knew what he was getting himself into when he trained as a professional driver. His father is also a trucker.
