Iliya Muskov can’t do without Predictive Powertrain Control any more

Vehicle & Technology

Absolutely convinced.

Iliya Muskov regularly drives from Morocco to Germany. The perfect conditions for thoroughly testing Predictive Powertrain Control.

From Tangier to Hanover or Berlin – when Iliya Muskov is on the road, he covers a lot of kilometres. Loaded with textiles from Morocco, Iliya then drives the around 3.000-kilometre stretch to Germany. “It’s a special route,” he says, “in some way, I play my part in connecting the African continent to the European one. I’m pleased with that.”

Long-distance expert.

Bulgarian-born Iliya is a specialist in driving international routes. “On such long routes, every bit of help is appreciated,” says Iliya. “Even if a driver is highly focused, good assistance systems can make the difference whether they safely reach their destination or not.” He has been working for the company Transportes Olmo Express in the Andalusian city of Martos for more than ten years. Before moving to Spain more than 20 years ago, he worked in England for some time.

“A revolution.”

A driver who has covered more than two million kilometres and can hand out proper expert judgement on the Actros as a result. Two things instantly come to mind: “The comfortable driver’s seat and the intelligent cruise control. They make the tours a piece of cake,” he say smiling. For the naturalised Spaniard, there’s a time before and a time after Predictive Powertrain Control. “The system has revolutionised driving. And you save a whole lot of fuel with Predictive Powertrain Control,” he says.

Initially sceptical.

Ilya has to admit that he was sceptical on his first drive with Predictive Powertrain Control to begin with: “A system that knows inclines and slopes and intervenes accordingly? That sounded like it was too good to be true.” However, every mountain pass that he drove along on his tours using the intelligent cruise control convinced him even more. “Be it on Somosierra, around Mont Blanc or the mountainous B 31 main road through the Black Forest: The technology worked great everywhere. A couple of years ago, that was still complete science fiction.”
