Woodcock steals the limelight with the Actros Edition 1

ACTROS EDITION 1

G. Woodcock & Son have rewarded a valued driver with the keys to the stunning new limited edition model.

The exclusive vehicle joins seven more Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks in the company’s fleet and will lead the way in livery, design and performance. Owner Geoff Woodcock explained to Roadstars why it was time to push the boat out.

Standing out amidst competitors.

Established 45 years ago by Geoff, G. Woodcock & Sons is still a family business at heart, with Geoff and his son Nicholas taking care of the day to day running of the company. Based near Oldham, it primarily transports shipping containers nationwide and the growing fleet includes high-quality pre-owned Mercedes-Benz trucks.

However, for the latest purchase, Geoff realised he wanted something different. “We’re a relatively small company in a crowded marketplace, so I felt we had to do something to really get us noticed,” he explained.

An exceptional truck.

Enter the very special Actros Edition 1. One of only 400 units produced in the world and 35 allocated to the UK, the high-class 2563 model, offers all the impressive features of the new Actros including revolutionary MirrorCam technology for increased visibility and safety along with Active Brake Assist 5, Multimedia Cockpit and enhanced Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC).

In addition to this, is the show-stopping sleek livery which proudly displays its ‘Edition 1’ status across the front of the vehicle. Other features include a gloss black grille, range-topping GigaSpace cab boasting darkened headlamp covers and rims and a sun visor which incorporates four extra LED main-beam headlamps.

The black leather-trimmed interior also doesn’t disappoint, with contrasting topstitching and a polished and brushed aluminium dashboard badge that confirms it as ‘One of 400’ Edition 1s. Drivers can choose from no fewer than eight colours of ambient ceiling lighting, while the bed measures an industry-leading 900 mm wide.

“I knew immediately that it was exactly what I was looking for. It’s a fantastic-looking vehicle and makes a real statement – you certainly can’t miss it.”

One lucky driver.

All of the company drivers are highly valued and respected members of the team, however the keys could only be handed to one fortunate individual, John Kershaw. “He’s been with us for seven years, although I’ve known him, and indeed his father, who was also a driver, for much longer,” said Geoff.

John has 30 years of driving experience under his belt, so knows a thing or two about trucks, “I came out of a ’17-plate Actros with a 480 hp engine,” said John Kershaw. “That was a nice truck, but the Edition 1 is in a different league altogether. The ride is incredibly smooth, and the engine pulls really well – it never has to try too hard on the hills, but just sails along.”

Driver John Kershaw is a king of the road in his new Actros Edition 1.

The many admirers of the Actros Edition 1.

The enthusiastic driver can’t get enough of the comfy cab, “The interior is amazingly luxurious too, with leather everywhere, a huge bed and superbly comfortable mattress, plus an excellent DAB radio and sound system.”

In fact, he isn’t the only fan as it appears to attract a hoard of admirers wherever it goes, “I’ve had the truck two weeks and it always causes a stir. I’ve seen guys doing double-takes out on the road, and whenever I pull in at a truckstop someone always comes over for a closer look.”

Total customer satisfaction.

Geoff couldn’t be happier with his new truck and is a loyal fan of the reliable Mercedes-Benz range, “Our Actros tractors have proved over many years to be extremely reliable and cost-effective to operate. They’re also great to drive and provide a comfortable living and working space. The Actros Edition 1 combines all of these qualities with an added layer of exclusivity.”

We think Geoff will be setting his sights on more new Mercedes-Benz trucks in the future!
