New segments.

Team Juntunen Oy from Rantsila supplies complete solutions for the peat industry. With some question marks hanging over the future prospects of the industry, the company has started to create new sectors of operation for itself.

MirrorCam: numerous safety and assistance systems support the Juntunen drivers during their drives in their areas of operation.

When Kauko Juntunen started supplying the peat industry from Rantsila in 1976, his young son Heikki often accompanied him when he went to the peat bogs. “Even as an eight-year-old I was fully committed to it. My mother always tried to curb my enthusiasm a bit, but to no avail. I really wanted to go with my father to the peat bogs,” says Heikki Juntunen. At the age of 15, he joined his father’s business.

“Apart from peat extraction, we mainly operated a food delivery service at that time. It was always torture for me whenever we weren’t transporting peat. When I started my own company in 2006, a peat transporter and equipment needed for peat extraction were purchased immediately.”

Today, Team Juntunen employs 25 specialists and works in seven peat bogs on behalf of Tuveruukki Oy.

Timber transport: alongside the peat industry, Team Juntunen is now also active in other transport sectors.

An industry which has faced challenges.

In order to compensate for the seasonal fluctuations in the peat business and be able to employ drivers throughout the year, Team Juntunen has started to create new segments for its business. “We used to be a local energy company, but now we have made a name for ourselves as an all-round provider.”

Team Juntunen uses the new Arocs with MirrorCam to transport timber. The timber is transported on behalf of the Metsä Group to the mills in Kemi and Oulu, the railway stations south of Oulu and the regional sawmills.

Decades with Mercedes‑Benz.

The Juntunen family can look back on decades of experience with Mercedes‑Benz Trucks. The company currently owns two Actros 3563 8×4s for peat transport, an Arocs 3253 8×4 for gravel transport and a new Arocs 3263 8×4 for timber transport, as well as a Vito and Sprinter fleet.

Particular attention was also paid to the appearance of his new Actros peat transporter. With the name “Turvetta ja Timantteja” (Peat and Diamonds), the elegant Actros has won prizes at numerous truck festivals.

“Our peat transporters rack up 200,000 to 250,000 kilometres per year. At one time they covered as many as 400,000. Now, however, generation of electricity in the summer is no longer peat-based. This is noticeable in the distances travelled,” says Juntunen.

Power: the Juntunen Arocs is equipped with an impressive 460 kW.

“The reliability of the vehicles is absolutely brilliant. Trucks from Mercedes‑Benz are characterised by excellent handling and equipment, making them extremely popular with drivers. Even when there’s a heavy frost, the quiet cab is comfortable and cosy. Mercedes‑Benz has always been an expert in this area,” says Heikki Juntunen. He should know – after all, he’s been in the cab since he was eight years old.
