4-Xtremes reloaded: The Kammermanns are planning a new adventure!

Series: 4-Xtremes – The World Tour

Three years on the road – join them for the journey!

Andrea and Mike Kammermann spent eleven months on the road with their Axor as part of their “4‑Xtremes” tour, reporting on their progress right here on RoadStars. And now they've started a new countdown until their new and much bigger adventure begins. The pair from Switzerland will be on the road for three years and the RoadStars community will again be joining them on the trip! They'll be revealing the destination of their journey to you right here.

A home on wheels: Andrea and Mike Kammermann's expedition-ready Axor is still serving as their home.

Our tour of extremes isn't long back. Over the course of its more than 47,000 kilometres, it has taken us to the coldest inhabited place on Earth in Siberia, and has let us experience scorching heat in Iran. Not to mention all the exciting encounters in many countries. Enough adventure for a whole lifetime? No! Once again, we're feeling an irresistible pull to go on the road with our Axor expedition mobile. And this time we want to take the RoadStars community with us and regularly chronicle our journey!

When we got back from the 4-Xtremes tour in May, we just knew: The truck remains our actual home, and we're going to go on a really big tour again sometime. We explored Germany a little at first, met up with some friends who also have an Axor equipped with a living cabin, and visited the Truck Grand Prix on the Nürburgring. In the Netherlands, our truck's living cabin was made pretty by the manufacturer.

“After having four extreme locations as our travel destinations last time, this time we're travelling to four capes.”

- Andrea and Mike Kammermann

A decisive impulse came from Saudi Arabia.

After this journey, we had to think about the future – and about our sources of income for the short term. My husband Mike found a temporary job, and I have been working as a photographer at many events. In this time, our truck was located with friends close to Zurich. It was there that we also set about planning our next adventure.

The decisive impulse came at the end of September: Saudi Arabia is now issuing proper tourist visas. From this moment on, it was certain: after the end of Mike's current job at the end of March, we're starting our journey! After having four extreme places as our travel destinations last time, this time we're travelling to four capes. This idea has been exciting to us for a long time.

A route of superlatives.

The approximate route: via south-eastern Europe, we travel through Turkey and Iran. From there on, we board a ferry to Oman and travel from there to the Arabian Peninsula, right up to the Jordanian shore of the Dead Sea. We then head on to Egypt by ferry, from where we drive along the eastern coast of Africa until we reach South Africa's Cape of Good Hope.

From South Africa, we then head for South America. Our destination there: Cape Horn, the continent's southern tip. Via "detours" such as the Transamazônica and Transoceánica route, we travel through the American continent all the way north to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska. In Alaska, our Axor is loaded onto a ship again, headed for Russia. From there, we will drive to Europe through Central Asia, in order to finally arrive – probably in March 2023 – at the North Cape in Norway.

“So, we're quite well-prepared and really look forward to starting our journey!”

Travel planning at Lake Zurich.

We've recently been living at a campsite near Lake Zurich. Mike's workplace is only ten minutes away. This leaves a lot of time for planning – and there's a lot of planning to do: researching the highlights of the destination countries, applying for visa and carnets de passage, refreshing our vaccinations, obtaining a health certificate for Aimée. We've already sold our motorbike because we've been using it too rarely, and maybe we'll be taking bicycles instead.

A few changes to the truck also need to be made. The truck will receive a new paint job in February so that we can start our project with a fresh design. Last summer, Mike already made alterations to the storage space. And although we don't have a huge amount of stuff, we were able to clear out our clutter and downsize again. We're ready! And we can't wait to set off and share the progress with you here on RoadStars!
