Trucking Milestones: 1978 – an NG 2632/6x6 makes home dreams come true

Series: Trucking milestones

Your own four walls – on wheels.

Towards the end of the 1970s, the preferred mode of transport for the “Fachwerkhaus 2000” was Mercedes‑Benz.

Let’s go! The loaded NG 2632 begins its tour at the manufacturer’s Westerwald plant.

Mercedes‑Benz trucks transport pretty much any freight you can imagine. Sometimes they even help make residential dreams come true. Like this NG 2632/6x6 in 1978. The all-wheel truck was the flagship of the fleet belonging to the manufacturer Huf Ideal Haus. Its load consisted of wall elements for the “Fachwerkhaus 2000”.

As the name – which was futuristic at the time – indicates, this house is not your average model. It is an extremely solid residence made of plenty of wood and glass. Shortly before the production of this story for Transport magazine, the manufacturer had even won the award for House of the Year.

Seamless transport, lightning-quick construction.

The 2632 was not only there to transport the futuristic “Fachwerkhaus 2000”: the truck also bore a significant load in the process of bringing together the individual parts, made possible by its powerful crane structure. By the way, the manufacturer of dream homes is more active today than ever before – under the slightly truncated name HUF HAUS. And you can rest assured that the homes they deliver are still standing: the lifetime back then was touted to be an impressive 150 years.
