Waste management: a task for the Arocs at Grupo Toysal

Profiting from protecting the environment.

Víctor Toca Achurra earns his daily bread with sustainability. The president of Grupo Toysal is setting important trends when it comes to recycling in the Galicia region of Spain. Both his new Arocs vehicles fit well with the company's own philosophy.

Sorting is important. Up to 200 tonnes of industrial waste are processed each day in Toysal's recycling plant in Vigo.

"Whatever activity you undertake, waste will always be produced. You can either get rid of it at the dump – or you can appropriately prepare it and re-use it elsewhere. The latter options aims to reduce or even completely eradicate the waste's negative influence on the environment." That's how Víctor Toca Achurra, president of Grupo Toysal, explains the meaning of recycling. The both long-sighted and ambitious businessman founded Galicia's first privately-owned waste management company in As Somozas (A Coruña) and also opened its first processing and recycling plant for industrial waste in Vigo.

"The good thing about recycling is that you're never finished. There are limitless possibilities," assures Víctor Toca Achurra. Toysal's recycling operation for industrial waste can recycle up to 200 tonnes of waste per day, although it presently only operates at half of its capacity. The plant selects and recycles cardboard boxes, wood, plastic and metals. "Recycling requires clear and proper sorting," highlights the president.

Among Toysal's customers are companies from the marine industry as well as from the automobile and construction branches. "We process around 30 percent of all the industrial waste produced in Vigo," explains Víctor Toca Achurra, adding that up to 70 percent of the waste that would have landed in the tip ten years ago can be recycled today. The group is investing more and more in technology and machinery. A new technology is currently being tested which turns waste products into gas that is subsequently used to generate electricity.

Agile and manoeuvrable. At Toysal, the Arocs tipper is well-suited to any situation – and has also proven to have particularly low fuel consumption.

Toysal group's fleet also features trucks equipped with the latest technologies: an Arocs 2643 and a Arocs 1832. "The drive system, the chassis, the suspension and the frame guarantee optimum tractive power and manoeuvrability," confirms Víctor Toca Achurra. Drivers Víctor Ramilo and Antonio González also favour the great ground clearance of the vehicle, which allows for excellent manoeuvrability on uneven terrain. "The Arocs helps us overcome any challenge," they explain.

On the first day already, both drivers noticed that the Arocs is the fleet's truck which consumes the least fuel. This falls perfectly in line with the vision of Víctor Toca Achurra, who thinks environmental protection and profit are both as important as one another. Efficient, sustainable solutions are pre-requisites. They are also values which he shares with the three-pointed star and his Mercedes-Benz Partner "Vip Galicia". "Our business relations are so good that they don't need any recycling."
