Eiffage Infraestructuras are expanding their Arocs fleet

On firm ground.

Eiffage Infraestructuras are significantly expanding their fleet. 19 Arocs concrete mixers and tractor units mark the beginning for the construction specialists.

Eiffage Infraestructuras produce 3.5 million tonnes of aggregate per year – leading participant in several of the most important construction projects in Spain.

"We're betting on the Spanish market," says César Nohales, the General Director of the Los Serranos group. Los Serranos belongs to the Eiffage Infraestructuras group, a subsidiary company of the French Eiffage group. Nohales explains that the company controls over 24 quarries, 22 concrete plants and 27 asphalt factories throughout the whole of Spain. Furthermore, they are the largest asphalt manufacturer in the country: "According to Asefma, the Spanish asphalt manufacturer confederation, we have a market share of nine percent."

"We need easy-care, economical vehicles with a good image - they are, after all, our best advertising out on the road." César Nohales, General Director of the Los Serranos group, which belongs to Eiffage Infraestructuras

High production figures. Eiffage Infraestructuras deliver 500,000 cubic meters of concrete to their customers annually.

Eiffage Infraestructuras, whose parent company built the Eiffel tower, the glass pyramid at the Louvre and the Tour Majunga – the second highest sky scraper in France – want to keep their carbon footprint as small as possible. The company strategy is aligned accordingly – it is based on autonomy as well as high-level investments in research and development.

Recently, a new business division, "EI Logística", was founded. In the long term, it should carry out all the transport applications of the group and also transportation for third parties. "We need easy-care, economical trucks," César Nohales explains. It was not surprising then that the first acquisitions were 19 Arocs – nine 1843 tractor units for tilting operation and ten 3236 concrete mixers. Nohales explains that the deciding factors were consumption, operating costs and residual value after five years. "We also wanted vehicles with a good image - they are, after all, our best advertising out on the road," he feels.

In addition to the previous vehicles owned by Eiffage Infraestructuras, the entire fleet now numbers 70 trucks – however, even this is not enough to meet with current production volumes. "We want to have doubled the number of our vehicles in five years," assures Nohales.

Fleet expansion. Nine Arocs 1843 tractor units for tilting operation and ten Arocs 3236 concrete mixers mark the beginning of a new fleet which should secure the growth of Eiffage Infraestructuras.

Production numbers are already high: 3.5 million tonnes of aggregate, 500,000 cubic meters of concrete and 1.1 million tonnes of asphalt annually. Eiffage Infraestructuras is involved in the construction and modernisation of the most important buildings and traffic infrastructures in Spain: motorways, major roads and high-speed train lines. The prospects for this segment continue to be positive: "Ultimately, safety on the road also depends on the quality of the road surface," says Nohales.

The research department of Eiffage Infraestructuras is located in Abanilla – Murcia – and is currently concerned with the development of ecological methods of production at low temperatures in order to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, bituminous mixtures should be more environmentally friendly and the percentage of recycled asphalt should be increased to ten percent. "In order to play a leading role, one must always be up-to-date," says Nohales.

Eiffage Infraestructuras initially expanded into Latin America due to the cultural and linguistic affinity. "Our prospects for growth on the American continent are very promising," commented the General Director. The charismatic César Nohales took over the management of a company of 54 employees at the age of 24. Three decades later he is still standing with both feet planted "on firm ground".
