Secret Places

Storseisund, Norway.

The place:

Norway's national route No. 64 is just 8247 metres in length. Despite that, the road between Kårvåg and Vevang along the rugged Atlantic coast is unique. The slalom between cliffs and waves is so spectacular that in 2005 the road was voted Norway's "Structure of the Century". With its elegant sweeps and tight curves, the route includes a total of eight bridges. The most spectacular of them is the 260-metre-long Storseisund Bridge with its 23-metre-high arch to allow ships to pass underneath at all tides.

Insider's tip:

"This bridge always makes for a very special experience. You go home every time with a completely different impression, depending on whether the tide is in or out, whether the wind is whipping up the ocean or the sun is shining. If you're in luck, you might even see seals or whales from the cusp of bridge."
