Wincanton’s verdict on the Mercedes-Benz Arocs? Top-notch

AROCS

Britain’s largest logistics company mixes it with the best.

In 2016 Wincanton, the largest British logistics company, became the first 3PL provider to enter the ready-mixed concrete supply chain. Expecting future growth, they ordered 25 8x4 mixers based on the 32-tonne Arocs chassis.

After a full year in service, their Arocs are winning glowing reviews from drivers and management. So what do they have to say…?

New business, new driving jobs.

Wincanton’s new capability to serve the concrete supply chain has been well received, with 21 out of the fleet of 25 Arocs mixer trucks working on behalf of ‘Aggregates Industries’.

By bringing in their Arocs 8x4 mixers, Wincanton not only won new business, but have also got more truckers on the road by creating 16 new driving jobs.

Glowing reviews for the Arocs.

Both drivers and management are delighted at their impact on the business:

“They’ve proved every bit as reliable and cost-effective to operate as we’d hoped, while driver feedback has also been resoundingly positive. In short, the 8x4 Arocs is perfectly suited to the role.”

- Ranald Forbes, Director of Construction at Wincanton

Tackling construction sites with ease.

The 25 strong fleet are all Arocs 3240 LB (mixer) models with air suspended rear axles, which allow the chassis to be lowered when necessary to facilitate loading in batching plants, and advanced, 290 kW (400 hp) six-cylinder engines that drive through 12-speed Mercedes PowerShift automated transmissions.

Wincanton love their Arocs N3 variants which features front and rear underrun protection and superior ground clearance, which makes them perfect for rugged construction sites.

They can also carry more with their cavernous 8m3 Cifa drums which are made from wear-resistant steel and hold a large payload of concrete.

Thanks to these high-specifications, they are confident that they will get a lengthy 8 year lifespan out of their workhorses.

Driver safety and comfort are paramount.

The Arocs is a capable partner on the construction site, but it also offers a high level of safety for Wincanton’s valued truckers.

Aside from the comprehensive Mercedes-Benz specification that includes the Active Brake Assist system, Wincanton’s Arocs are equipped with recordable cameras, side and corner sensors, and indicators that issue verbal warnings when the vehicle is turning left. Forward-facing MiX Telematics cameras also provide live feeds of each truck’s location and activity over the Internet.

On safety, Forbes stated:

“Not only do our Mercedes-Benz Arocs meet the requirements of our Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) accreditation, but their top-notch safety, reliability and performance features assist us in attracting the best drivers, to the ultimate benefit of our customers.”

In terms of comfort, drivers who can’t make it back to base are well catered for with air-conditioned L- ClassicSpace sleeper cabs with full sized beds, extra storage, and optional comfort features including fridges and microwaves.
