A round-up of highlights from the RoadStars UK Team.

Another exciting year for RoadStars! 2018 brought together all sorts of stories, launches and interesting talking points. From exhilarating training courses to brand new truck features along with informative discussions about real drivers’ issues, we’ve rounded up the best of the year below.


 

 

January:

2018 kicked off with a debate on an important topic: autonomous trucks. Truck driver and transport journalist Bob Beech discussed the potential positive and negative impacts on truck drivers and overall felt confident that although automation may change the way a truck operates, it will not negate the need for drivers and their essential knowledge and experience.


February:

Introducing the UK Limited Edition Actros1! The brand new exclusive truck launched in February has been designed specifically for owner-drivers seeking safety, comfort and maximum performance.


 

 

March:

Two lucky UK truckers won places on the 2018 RoadStars Safety Training course in Germany. It was an exhilarating weekend of testing the newest truck tech, learning important safety manoeuvres and spending time with fellow RoadStars.

April:

Driver Allan Holt gave his review of the new Actros1: “I was gobsmacked,” he said. “My current Actros 630 is very high spec but the Actros1 is something else altogether.”


May:

Truckfest Peterborough! Nine lucky RoadStars winners showcased their impressive trucks on the Mercedes-Benz Truckfest stand. The VIPs were chosen by truck driver and transport journalist Bob Beech and each truck boasted unique features.


June:

Remember that heat wave? RoadStars and experienced truckers Tom and David shared their top tips on how to keep cool when driving in the summer heat.


July:

We need more truckers! A major concern is the declining interest in a driving career amongst the younger generation. In July, RoadStars explored the challenges facing young people and asked what does the future hold?


August:

Safety is a hot topic in the trucking community – we spoke to Tarmac and their love of the Econic for its improved visibility features. Its wrap-around windscreen, fully-glazed folding door, cameras and strategically placed mirrors ensure increased safety in urban areas for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists alike.


September:

Our RoadStars #LoveTheLorry! For National Lorry Week, we interviewed drivers to find out why they love what they do.


October:

Mercedes-Benz Senior Truck Trainer Chris Keen gave RoadStars some fantastic tips and advice for driving more economically and getting the best out of your vehicle. He also discussed the latest truck technology and the valuable practical skills offered by training courses at Wentworth Park.


November:

We caught up with Trevor at Truckfest South West and he introduced us to his beloved Actros 480 which he refers to as his first home.  Trevor has been driving for 36 years, including five years driving across Russia. His current vehicle is affectionately named Maggie, after his wife.


December:

We know truckers are the real heroes of Christmas, ensuring deliveries are made throughout the holidays. RoadStars Tracey and Dominic recall their favourite festive memories on the road and share their top tips for making the most of this period, wherever you are.
