Spain: Vasily Danci is an avid fisherman
Story
Vasily Danci relies on MirrorCam and Active Drive Assist in his new Actros. And in his spare time he improves his fishing skills.
What could be better than driving a new Actros equipped with the latest technology? “Fishing by the sea after work,” Vasily replies with a laugh. This driver enjoys his days to the full: “I love my job and I can combine it with my great hobby – fishing.”
The Romanian driver is lucky enough to be at the wheel of a new Actros 1945. Vasily has lived in Spain for more than 20 years and for the last 12 he has worked for the company Furgotrayler, which has provided him with one of the 30 most recently acquired vehicles.
“At first I had to adapt to the new technology,” he admits, “but I got used to it quickly.” With the help of the MirrorCam, Vasily drives and manoeuvres with greater safety. “With the system, I can avoid many of these little difficulties that we all experience from time to time at the loading docks,” he says.

Vasily carries out both national and international transport – his truck is mainly loaded with express parcel deliveries. Active Drive Assist helps him to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and to stay in the middle of the lane. “This is especially great for long distances,” he says. “All colleagues agree on that.”

Thanks to some colleagues, Vasily also discovered the world of fishing. “They suggested once that I accompany them for a weekend,” he explains. “Before I tried it, I found it rather boring,” he admits. But barely half an hour after he had cast the line, he felt it tighten and the fishing rod bend. The spool made a noise and the line started to unwind at full speed. “A sea bream had taken my bait!” Vasily recalls excitedly. At that very moment he became an amateur fisherman.
“That was beginner’s luck,” he says laughing. Sometimes he sits next to the fishing rod for four or five hours and catches nothing. “But you forget the phone, the stress, absolutely everything that bothers you.”
Preferably by the sea.
If Vasily had to choose between river and sea fishing, it would be easy for him: “To stand by the sea and hear the waves breaking on the shore is simply incomparable.” From his home town of Tarragona, he usually goes to the Mediterranean Sea with two or three amateur angler friends. There’s not much talking. “Sometimes we swap hooks or bait. If one of us catches something, we’re all happy. We spend a lot of time in silence.” And when fishing alone, he often looks for a quiet place to set up his gear: “Fish don’t like noise.”
