Remco Möhlmann makes deliveries for the catering industry in cramped city centres

Passionately behind the wheel.

Remco Möhlmann got his enthusiasm for trucks from his father. He has been driving for the firm Bidfood for 15 years and is currently behind the wheel of an Antos 2024.

Remco got his passion for driving from his father.

Thankfully, Remco Möhlmann is a morning person. In order to deliver the fresh goods to the customer in time, he sets off in his Antos every day before dawn. Remco drives one of the 190 Mercedes‑Benz trucks in the fleet of online catering wholesaler Bidfood.

His father was a driver before him.

Love for trucks runs in the family, something Remco Möhlmann is certain of. His father was on the road delivering pallets, and Remco used to tag along when he wasn’t at school. “I was already on the road back then, so to speak. I just couldn’t get enough of all the new impressions I saw.”

It’s therefore no surprise that Remco also ended up driving trucks. He finished his driver training almost 15 years ago, after which he first sat behind the wheel of one of the Bidfood firm’s trucks, still going by the name Deli XL back then. “I liked it right away. And I still like it now. I think the freedom is magnificent. It’s pretty great: I can be on the road in my truck all day,” smiles Remco. “Apart from that, I enjoy the contact I have with the customers a lot. There’s always time to lark about a bit with the ones I’ve known for a while.”

“The Antos’ safety systems help me in heavy urban traffic.”

On the road around Amsterdam.

Remco’s employer, Bidfood, is an online wholesaler for the catering industry and a single-source supplier for food service. The headquarters in the northern Dutch town of Hoofddorp is Remco’s home port. That’s also where his Antos is parked, and equipped with a Multitemp loading platform. This way, both cold and frozen products can be transported at the same time. Remco brings fresh produce to Hoofddorp, Haarlem and Amsterdam, among others, with his truck. What customers does he have? “I deliver to anywhere you can order something to eat. Of course, this includes cafeterias, restaurants and hotels, but canteens at sports clubs, too.”

Not just in the city: Remco’s colleagues even drive the goods all the way to the beach – but then with an Arocs.

Through the heavy city traffic with the Antos.

Remco’s Antos isn’t a long-haul vehicle that spends most of its time driving on the motorway. On the contrary: Remco spends most of his day driving along country roads and, of course, in built-up areas. This brings its share of challenges when driving in cities and on their often narrow streets. “Urban traffic in continuously on the increase. And space for manoeuvring is tight,” says Remco. “But the Antos’ safety systems help me to manoeuvre as well as possible.”

As of late, Remco has been supporting the team coordinators at Bidfood. He makes sure that the drivers hit the road with their complete loads. Apart from that, he helps his driver colleagues if they have any questions. “I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. This way, I can also progress further in this area. I’ll gladly pass on my passion. Just like my father did with me.”
