Combe Laval, France.

Around 600 metres above the valley, the Atego snakes around the tight rock formations and overhangs along the most beautiful road of the French Alps. Enormous altitude differences and narrow roadways turn any journey on the Route de Combe Laval into an Alpine challenge. Particularly in those places where the vicious mountainous fog suddenly leaves drivers blind.

The Vercors Massif with peaks up to 2300 metres high stretches south-west of the French skiing paradise around Grenoble. Due to its rugged valley and steep mountainsides, the area was only connected up with the rest of the French traffic infrastructure relatively late towards the end of the 19th century. In the thick of it is the Route de Combe Laval. After its completion, it initially served for transporting wood out of the Forêt de Lente. Today it is a well-loved tourist attraction.
