Ishak Pasha Palace, Turkey.

Extremely thin air, long dry periods, glowing heat and not a single tree in sight for miles around: the climate around the plateau upon which the Ishak Pasha Palace regally sits is truly hostile. Here, in the most eastern part of Turkey, the Actros follows the former Silk Road in the direction of Iran and Iraq.

Built between 1685 and 1784, the Ishak Pasha Palace adorns the ledge of a mountain ridge at around 2200 metres altitude. As a result of its long construction time, it unites Seljuk, Armenian and Ottoman architectural influences. However, the layout of the individual commercial buildings and living quarters strictly follows that of the world-renowned Topkapı Palace in Istanbul. Due to the extreme conditions on this plateau, the palace had its own water reservoir built just north of the boundary walls, which is filled by water from the nearby Mount Ararat, Turkey's highest mountain.
