The surf is directly below the road followed by the big, open expanse all the way to the Antarctic. The Great Ocean Road: 243 fascinating kilometres along Australia’s southern coast. As is the case here in Wongarra, the mountains of the outback often extend into the sea and the road meanders its way along the coast.

Fantastic views of Bass Strait and the southern Indian Ocean are guaranteed. At least if a storm, sea spray or fog aren’t blocking the view – a reason why this part of the coast in the state of Victoria used to be regarded as one of the most dangerous in the world. More than 800 ships are said to have been wrecked on the cliffs. The Great Ocean Road remedied this. Completed in 1932, it provided the first safe transport route between the coastal locations. The Actros drives along it today.
