Truck Generations

China, Xijiang Miao.

Innumerable artistic wood carvings decorate the small houses in the village of Xijiang Miao. The sleepy Chinese hamlet is one of the centres for the Miao people.

About 1,300 families with a total of 6,000 members of this indigenous people live here. The many written recordings in the Chinese chronicles and history books about the history of the Miao are as much as 2,000 years old. The village is about three driving hours east of the provincial capital Guiyang on the river Baishu. Most of the houses are linked by walkways. They follow the flow of the river and the silhouette of the surrounding hills harmoniously.

Lots of small shops are located in the centre of the village. They sell goods for daily needs as well as souvenirs for the numerous tourists who wander through the narrow, picturesque streets every day. Early in the morning, a first-generation Actros brings pallets of supplies.
