Best in show: our truck event highlights

TRUCK SHOWS

Join RoadStars as we take a trip down memory lane remembering our favourite truck show moments.

The RoadStars team have missed seeing your faces at truck shows this year and hope to be in attendance next summer. In the meantime, we’ve been looking through the stories from previous events and thought we’d share some of our favourite show highlights.

Fun for all the family.

Truckfest is a staple on every driving enthusiast’s calendar. The annual events have been running for nearly 40 years, drawing in thousands of drivers, truck fans and families from all over the UK. They promise lots of fun for all ages and Truckfest 2017 was no different.

Entertainment throughout the weekend included plenty of live music, monster truck stunts, funfair rides, celebrity guest appearances and a fantastic light parade with firework display.

RoadStars winners.

RoadStars made an appearance at the Peterborough event with an impressive stand on the back of a truck – just fewer than 3000 trucks were on display throughout the weekend!

We were delighted to host our RoadStars competition winner Allan Holt and his stunning Pollock Scotrans Actros, along with runners up Dominic and Tracy Newby and their son Edward with their classic Mercedes-Benz NG 1622. Their extraordinary vehicles beat many others to claim a coveted spot on our stand!

In addition, we welcomed many new and existing members, with everyone walking away with a branded bag of goodies.

Eye-catching liveries.

Next up is Truckfest 2018 – the sun shone during this weekend! Offering the same as the previous year, the event was a scorching success with lots of truckers chatting to us about the best ways to cool down when stuck in your cab on a long, hot journey.

We witnessed some jaw-dropping liveries too and spoke to the drivers of the vehicles about the motives behind the colourful and interesting designs.

We also ran a competition in the run-up to the event which gave 10 drivers the opportunity to display their impressive vehicles on the RoadStars stand.

The lucky winners included Josh Hughes from Wales, a driver for haulier Tony M Rees, proudly displayed his Actros 2548 Streamspace with a sleek tribute to Formula 1 racing airbrushed on the back of the cab. Whilst Tony Mitchell, a trucker with over 20 years of experience of driving throughout Europe, demonstrated his Actros Streamspace with an eye-catching livery design – characters from the movie Frozen! We’re sure many children were thrilled to encounter this vehicle!

“What I like about it is the independence, being my own boss… on the open road, every day is different.”

Truck love!

At Truckfest 2019, we talked to drivers about their love of trucks and what they enjoy most about their jobs. We received a resoundingly positive response with many stating the freedom of being on the open road as a perk of the occupation.

It was great to meet such passionate individuals in the driving community; they also discussed truck technology and their first impressions of the new Actros with MirrorCam, which was showcased at the event. Feedback from different drivers included: “The camera systems are brilliant,” and “It’s all about making it safer…not just for you but other people on the roads,” plus “The driver is more aware of their surroundings and the environments they are in.”

Classic trucks and VIPs.

Finally who could forget ‘Convoy in the Park’ last year? Even the downpour couldn’t keep guests away from Donnington Park! A huge success all round; again we were able to catch up with plenty of RoadStars and their families and introduce the new Actros.

Two lucky RoadStars won VIP experiences, through a competition we ran for our members – Adrian Crihana and Adrian Cygan. The drivers, along with their families were treated to a fun-filled day out, including a hog roast and goody bags and were equally impressed with the new Actros.

“It was a lovely experience. I attended with my wife and two young daughters and they were thrilled. We really enjoyed seeing all the trucks,” Adrian Crihana.

Visitors also had the chance to take a tour around two very special vehicles, supplied by Mercedes-Benz Dealer Mertrux: an MP3 1861 Black Edition Actros and a rare 32 tonne ‘bull-nose’ Mercedes-Benz LS 1418 from 1971. Both trucks certainly stopped a lot of people in their tracks!

Until next year.

We’ve really enjoyed looking back through the photos from previous shows and it’s made the team even more excited for next year – will you be joining us at events in 2021? We hope so!
